Software Engineering Supervisor (Remote, Florida)

Lead software engineering delivery and team development for Avalon Healthcare Solutions’ healthcare diagnostics intelligence platform. This hands-on role combines technical leadership, architecture, mentoring, and cross-functional planning.

Description

  • Lead the design, development, delivery, operation, and support of Avalon’s software products and services while contributing hands-on technical expertise
  • Contribute to software code, architecture, and design decisions
  • Address technical issues, problems, and development-team escalations
  • Track technology trends and promote ongoing learning across the team
  • Mentor team members, provide coaching, and support their career progression
  • Develop team growth opportunities through stretch assignments, skill development, and exposure to emerging technologies
  • Partner with product teams, architects, stakeholders, and senior leaders on requirements and product roadmaps
  • Hold recurring one-on-one meetings and complete performance evaluations
  • Coordinate teams and resources to deliver projects and initiatives successfully
  • Keep industry and organizational knowledge current through training and independent study
  • Assess staffing requirements, support recruiting, and contribute to hiring decisions
  • Build a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence

Requirements

  • At least two years of experience in a technical leadership position
  • A relevant bachelor’s degree, or 10+ years of directly relevant experience in place of a degree
  • Experience applying IT engineering, quality assurance, and automation best practices
  • A record of delivering meaningful ongoing improvements in a continuous-improvement environment
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, organizational, relationship-building, communication, and negotiation abilities, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced Agile environment using SAFe, Scrum, and Kanban
  • Strong understanding of IT strategy and its connection to business objectives
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous hands-on experience as a technical lead or senior engineer
  • Experience using agentic AI tools in software engineering
  • Healthcare or insurance industry experience preferred
  • Familiarity with healthcare data exchange, clinical workflows, and integration architectures preferred
  • Working knowledge of AWS services preferred
  • Experience managing employees and contractors working remotely preferred
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with offshore engineers
  • Experience in an early-stage growth company is helpful
  • Hands-on proof-of-concept development experience preferred
