Software Engineer II - Java and JavaScript - Norfolk, VA Onsite

Build and support Java and JavaScript capabilities for HII Navy distributed simulation training systems. Work across JSAF, LVC architectures, and mission-critical defense software.

Description

  • Create, document, test, troubleshoot, and refine applications and systems that implement logical and mathematical solutions
  • Carry out multidisciplinary research while partnering with equipment designers and hardware engineers
  • Design, build, and apply electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software
  • Assess user needs and system capabilities to define program intent, outputs, inputs, development methods, and controls
  • Write and maintain operating instructions
  • Develop compilers, assemblers, utilities, and operating systems when required
  • Apply and uphold software development standards
  • Help deliver project milestones under general supervision
  • Drive ongoing improvements to the software infrastructure
  • Contribute to technical proposals, presentations, reports, and user manuals
  • Work from prioritized requirements set by NCTE program engineering leadership and partner with end users to deliver reliable, maintainable JSAF capabilities
  • Build, improve, integrate, and support JSAF features alongside developers and subject matter experts
  • Lead development on Red Hat Linux 7, 8, and 9 using IntelliJ or comparable integrated development environments
  • Develop with Java and JavaScript frameworks, including Sencha ExtJS and Vue.js
  • Automate tasks and queries through shell scripting
  • Manage source code with Git as the primary version control system
  • Help create and present briefings, project plans, system specification manuals, technical reports, and user documentation

Requirements

  • Two years of relevant experience with a related bachelor's degree, no experience with a related master's degree, or a high school diploma or equivalent plus six years of relevant experience
  • Ability to obtain applicable technical certifications, including Security+ and Linux+
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
  • Ability to provide on-site support when required
  • Advanced Java skills with object-oriented design and development experience
  • Experience building multithreaded applications
  • Proficiency with Java IDEs such as IntelliJ and Eclipse and with Java debugging tools
  • Professional development experience in Linux or Unix environments
  • Experience using shell scripts for automation
  • Proficiency with Git source control
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions
  • Experience developing JavaScript applications with modern UI frameworks such as Sencha ExtJS and Vue.js
  • Experience with unit testing, including JUnit, and Agile development methods
  • Familiarity with systems engineering
  • Experience integrating LVC simulation architectures such as TENA, HLA, and DIS
  • Familiarity with build and messaging tools including Gradle and Apache ActiveMQ
  • Experience with OSGi, CSS and HTML, CI/CD, and code-quality tools such as Jenkins and SonarQube
  • Knowledge of secure coding practices aligned with DISA ASD STIG
  • Experience designing role- and user-based permissions
  • Database development experience and familiarity with C/C++ and C4I systems
  • Familiarity with C/C++ and C4I systems
