Senior Renewable Energy Performance Engineer - Remote

Senior renewable energy engineer responsible for solar PV and battery energy yield assessments, technical due diligence, financial model review, and client reporting at Sargent & Lundy.

Description

  • Assess solar resources with satellite and ground-based datasets
  • Review solar project production, performance, and climate data
  • Lead and mentor engineers working on models, design reviews, and optimization for solar, wind, and battery storage projects
  • Complete long-term solar PV production studies with PVsyst and Excel post-processing
  • Contribute to assessments for residential, commercial, industrial, and utility-scale solar projects
  • Forecast project energy production
  • Calculate P90, P95, and P99 exceedance probabilities through uncertainty analysis
  • Perform statistical uncertainty reviews and clipping-adjusted degradation analyses
  • Improve and validate energy yield assessment processes
  • Produce technical due diligence reports and present findings to clients, developers, and financiers
  • Enter PV modeling assumptions and inputs into simulation tools
  • Respond to client questions about solar resources and energy yield
  • Support independent engineering and technical due diligence for financing and asset acquisitions
  • Review solar equipment choices and applicable technologies
  • Assess EPC contractors’ project execution plans
  • Review PPA, EPC, and O&M agreements
  • Examine CAPEX, OPEX, and performance assumptions in financial models
  • Prepare and review reports, studies, calculations, and other engineering deliverables
  • Apply relevant NEC, IEEE, UL, and IEC standards to solar design and performance work
  • Work with colleagues to establish project execution plans
  • Track project schedules and budgets
  • Manage multiple assignments while meeting quality requirements
  • Work directly with clients to clarify needs and confirm successful delivery
  • Analyze inverter-to-load ratios, bifacial gains, and soiling and loss assumptions
  • Develop proposals for business development pursuits
  • Travel occasionally to project sites and client offices

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, materials science, or a related scientific field
  • Extensive knowledge of solar resource assessment and energy yield forecasting methods
  • At least 10 years of experience in the energy sector
  • Background designing utility-scale solar projects
  • Prior experience as a renewable energy consultant
  • Experience delivering renewable energy due diligence services
  • Experience with uncertainty analysis and statistical data evaluation
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools
  • Understanding of renewable project execution and financing
  • Experience applying statistical modeling and data analytics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Background preparing technical reports and proposals
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with and mentor others
  • Project planning and leadership capabilities
  • Must be able to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
  • Experience with AI, automation, programming, or related technologies is beneficial but optional
