Senior Regional Rail Engineer – North Carolina (Remote)

Lead Horrocks’ railroad engineering practice across the United States as a regional rail engineering leader. Oversee rail projects, client partnerships, business development, and multidisciplinary teams.

Description

  • Provide regional leadership for railroad projects while supporting strategic growth initiatives in the assigned region
  • Direct the planning, design, coordination, and delivery of industry tracks, terminals, spurs, mainlines, yards, and sidings
  • Coordinate with railroad companies on DOT and municipal public agency projects involving at-grade crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings
  • Act as a senior technical advisor on rail design, grading, drainage, and related infrastructure
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, railroad operators, public agencies, and industry partners
  • Contribute to business development through client engagement, proposals, project pursuits, industry organizations, and conferences
  • Mentor engineers, designers, and junior staff while providing technical guidance across offices and project teams
  • Partner with Project Managers and regional leaders on staffing, resource planning, and operational efficiency
  • Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies across multiple states to maintain regulatory and railroad-standard compliance
  • Lead the implementation and enforcement of QA/QC processes throughout project development and delivery
  • Help develop and standardize rail engineering, coordination, design, and project delivery practices
  • Travel periodically for client meetings, site visits, regional coordination, and industry events
  • Perform additional duties as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in rail, transit, railroad infrastructure, and transportation or land development engineering projects
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary rail engineering projects and managing client relationships
  • Strong knowledge of design standards for track, at-grade railroad crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings
  • Experience mentoring technical staff and leading engineering teams across multiple projects or offices is preferred
  • Familiarity with CAD platforms and standard engineering software applications
  • Strong business development, communication, leadership, and organizational capabilities
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with railroad staff, clients, agencies, contractors, and internal teams
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
  • Willingness to travel regionally as needed for project delivery and client engagement
