Senior PostgreSQL Database Developer - Washington Hybrid

Lead database architecture, performance, security, and reliability for a federal enterprise data platform. Work with PostgreSQL-compatible Amazon Aurora, DynamoDB, AWS data services, and governed integration workflows.

Description

  • Manage the databases supporting a federal enterprise data platform, with accountability for architecture, performance, reliability, and data integrity.
  • Design and operate scalable data stores using Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible), Amazon DynamoDB, and related platform technologies.
  • Create logical and physical data models, including schemas, indexes, views, stored procedures, and functions.
  • Develop and optimize complex SQL by analyzing execution plans and refining indexes for high-volume workloads.
  • Build and maintain ETL and ELT workflows, including data loads through Amazon S3.
  • Diagnose issues involving performance, locking, replication, and data consistency.
  • Strengthen availability and recoverability through monitoring, capacity planning, backup and recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery practices.
  • Apply least-privilege database security and preserve audit trails.
  • Partner with architects, software developers, and data engineers.
  • Deliver database changes through CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
  • Automate data integration and loading patterns while implementing governed access controls.

Requirements

  • At least seven years of hands-on database development and engineering experience supporting enterprise applications.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Advanced experience with Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible), including schema design, stored procedures and functions, indexing, and execution-plan analysis.
  • Experience with Amazon DynamoDB data modeling, partition and key design, and Global and Local Secondary Indexes (GSIs and LSIs).
  • Strong SQL expertise covering complex queries, views, stored procedures, functions, relational design, normalization, and data modeling.
  • Experience resolving slow queries, locking, and deadlocks through indexing and execution-plan analysis.
  • Experience developing ETL and ELT solutions and integrating data across AWS services such as Amazon RDS, S3, and data migration services.
  • Knowledge of database security measures including encryption, access management, auditing, and compliance.
  • Experience supporting AWS cloud-native applications with CI/CD and DevSecOps practices, including monitoring, backup and recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Proficiency with writing, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • United States citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust determination are required for the initial engagement.
