Description

  • Lead development of flight-control and ground-station software with modern web technologies.
  • Provide technical direction across frontend software initiatives.
  • Develop robust, efficient and testable frontend code using JavaScript, HTML, CSS and related modern technologies.
  • Lead iterative software releases against agreed milestones and deadlines.
  • Support the estimation and refinement of development work.
  • Protect code quality through active participation in code reviews.
  • Build features from user stories that satisfy defined acceptance criteria.
  • Mentor and coach junior software engineers.
  • Complete other related responsibilities as needed.
  • Promote strong workplace health and safety practices.
  • Report hazards and incidents through the correct channels.
  • Complete required health and safety training.

Requirements

  • Hold a degree in computing or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrate professional experience with at least one modern JavaScript library, such as React.
  • Have expert knowledge of cross-browser and cross-device compatibility.
  • Use command-line tooling, including Node.js and NPM.
  • Collaborate with software teams through version-control platforms such as GitHub.
  • Work with API-based data, including REST APIs.
  • Review other engineers’ code through pull or merge requests.
  • Have strong working knowledge of CSS preprocessors such as SASS.
  • Write framework-independent interface code with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, including without Bootstrap.
  • Bring substantial frontend engineering experience on complex web applications.
  • Work collaboratively with issue tracking, documentation and CI/CD tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
  • Deliver software features from user stories while meeting all acceptance criteria.
  • Mentor and coach junior software engineers.
  • Have experience contributing to greenfield software projects.
  • Follow established coding standards.
  • Understand accessibility and user experience principles.
  • Work effectively within Scrum, Agile or comparable delivery methods.
  • Have previous line-management experience with junior software engineers.
  • Have prior experience interfacing with embedded systems.
  • Have experience migrating existing software to a new framework or library.
  • Have prior experience or a demonstrated interest in drones or aviation.
  • Communicate clearly and solve problems effectively.
  • Be enthusiastic, self-directed and collaborative.
  • Be a British citizen or already hold the right to work in the UK.
  • Be able to undertake occasional travel within the UK and internationally.
  • Hold a full, valid UK driving licence.
  • Be eligible to obtain Security Clearance, including five years of UK residence.
  • Have permission to work in the UK by the employment start date.
  • Meet the requirements for Baseline Personnel Security Standard clearance.
