Senior Engineering Manager, Web Experience — WEX (Remote)

Lead WEX Mobility’s web engineering strategy and customer-facing payment experiences. Guide technical direction, develop engineering leaders, and deliver reliable, scalable web platforms.

Description

  • Set and execute the long-term engineering strategy for WEX Mobility’s web experience.
  • Lead web development for card management, vehicle management, mobility payments, and future platform capabilities.
  • Shape technical vision and web platform architecture with architects and technical leaders.
  • Maintain an engineering roadmap that reflects business priorities.
  • Build a culture of innovation, learning, collaboration, ownership, and operational excellence.
  • Improve engineering processes, delivery speed, quality, and developer productivity.
  • Manage complex cross-functional initiatives from initial planning through delivery.
  • Work with Product, UX, and business leaders to prioritize investments and create customer-focused web experiences.
  • Define and track engineering metrics covering predictability, quality, reliability, and team effectiveness.
  • Lead sprint planning, roadmap reviews, operational reviews, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Set measurable objectives and key results with Product and business leadership.
  • Advance reusable platforms, shared components, and engineering standards across Mobility teams.
  • Hire, grow, mentor, and retain engineering managers and software engineers.
  • Coach team members through performance feedback and career development.
  • Manage team capacity and staffing needs.
  • Report strategy, progress, risks, and opportunities to senior leaders and cross-functional partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 8 years of software engineering experience.
  • At least 4 years of engineering management experience leading software teams.
  • Experience delivering modern, scalable web applications with Angular or React and micro-frontend architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of single-page applications, micro-frontend patterns, application lifecycle management, and software engineering practices.
  • Strong communication, organization, stakeholder management, and decision-making abilities.
  • Knowledge of web application security, privacy, authentication, authorization, and data protection.
  • Experience with automation, AI-assisted development tools, and engineering productivity practices.
  • People leadership experience spanning hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development.
  • Ability to lead through ambiguity, trade-offs, and organizational or technical change.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience applying analytics and customer insights to product and engineering decisions.
  • Master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience with shared web platforms, component libraries, reusable frameworks, or design systems preferred.
  • Experience with distributed systems, CI/CD, automated testing, release automation, feature flags, web performance monitoring, observability, payment or fleet platforms, FinTech, commercial cards, payment networks, card schemes, or proprietary payment systems preferred.
