Senior Energy Engineer

Lead energy, mechanical, and facility initiatives across Intermountain Health’s healthcare system. Reduce operating and capital costs through project delivery, commissioning, conservation, and optimization.

Description

  • Lead staff and leaders in reducing operating and capital costs across system facilities
  • Provide energy, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and controls expertise for new and existing buildings
  • Represent the Energy Management Department with internal and external partners
  • Manage large-scale projects independently
  • Develop system-wide strategies and direction
  • Mentor team members
  • Oversee energy and facility projects from scope and design through budgeting, contracting, implementation, verification, and utility incentives
  • Create and apply standard metrics for evaluating energy and water conservation
  • Partner with design engineers, project managers, and commissioning agents to implement optimization measures
  • Train facility staff and leaders in energy conservation, management, maintenance procedures, consumption, and equipment life
  • Establish standards and guidelines for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and ensure compliance
  • Lead design-document reviews for consulting design teams
  • Lead commissioning and recommissioning of facility equipment
  • Track best practices, technologies, market conditions, and trends to recommend process improvements
  • Apply energy-efficient design and optimization strategies that protect Intermountain assets and operations
  • Travel throughout the Intermountain system as required

Requirements

  • Nine years of applicable facility management, energy management, or construction experience; or a bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, or science with a P.E. license and five years of applicable experience; or a master's degree in one of these disciplines with a P.E. license and two years of applicable experience; or a Ph.D. in one of these disciplines with a P.E. license
  • Education must come from an accredited institution and is subject to verification
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and architectural drawings and plans
  • Extensive knowledge of HVAC systems and equipment, including boilers, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, air-handling equipment, and terminal HVAC devices
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to summarize complex technical issues for decision-makers
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities while supporting numerous internal customers
  • Experience with word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet, email, and scheduling applications
  • Willingness and availability to travel throughout the Intermountain system as needed
  • Preferred: bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field
  • Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Preferred: Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation
  • Preferred: Certified Hospital Facility Manager (CHFM) designation
  • Preferred: building automation systems certification
  • Preferred: building commissioning certification
  • Preferred: experience in healthcare facility design, construction, operations, maintenance, or energy management
