Senior Embedded Software Engineer, Microcontrollers — General Motors Hybrid

Develop low-level HWIO software for microcontrollers supporting General Motors’ software-defined vehicles in a senior hybrid role. Build, test, and debug embedded solutions with Embedded C and AUTOSAR MCAL.

Description

  • Create, implement, and validate low-level HWIO embedded software across multiple microcontroller platforms
  • Build software covering RTOS, memory, fault detection, power management, LIN, DMA, PWM, discrete I/O, and analog I/O
  • Configure AUTOSAR MCAL tools or develop tailored software solutions in C
  • Establish and carry out test strategies that confirm technical requirement compliance
  • Conduct independent code reviews and deliver actionable feedback
  • Work closely with hardware, calibration, and requirements teams
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical problems
  • Record software designs, test cases, and test outcomes
  • Create portable, scalable low-level embedded software for automotive applications aligned with GM’s Software Defined Vehicle strategy

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related discipline
  • At least five years of embedded software development experience with Embedded C
  • Advanced capability with AUTOSAR MCAL configuration and Complex Driver development
  • Practical experience using ARM, PowerPC, and Renesas microcontrollers
  • Proficiency developing for multicore systems with an RTOS
  • Solid knowledge of schematics and fundamental electrical circuits
  • Experience performing root-cause analysis across integrated basic and application software
  • Familiarity with Lauterbach, ETAS INCA, CANalyzer, and oscilloscopes
  • Ability to work independently while meeting demanding schedules
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in a related discipline
  • Preferred: At least eight years of embedded software development experience
  • Preferred: Experience with ARM Cortex-R52, ARM Cortex-M7, and NXP S32Kxx platforms
  • Preferred: Knowledge of vehicle electrical systems
