Senior Embedded Software Architect and Lead Developer in Oberhausen

Lead embedded software architecture for C/C++ power-electronics systems supporting Trane Technologies’ sustainable HVAC and transport products. Drive technical direction from initial concept through the full product lifecycle.

Description

  • Define software architectures for power-electronics products serving transport and stationary HVAC applications
  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of embedded software for VFDs and advanced control systems
  • Support products from early concept and production through ongoing lifecycle activities
  • Oversee software for power-management devices, firmware platforms, controller applications, system-control integration, and development tooling
  • Improve reliability, performance, configurability, and quality through architecture, code reviews, testing, and CI/CD practices
  • Help developers produce maintainable, reusable, extensible software and clear technical documentation
  • Partner with hardware engineers and help determine MCU/MPU and peripheral IC selections
  • Coordinate software, security, and external engineering specialists to meet cybersecurity and functional-safety standards
  • Partner with product owners and business stakeholders on implementation from architecture decisions through launch and lifecycle support
  • Track technology developments, assess components and engineering methods, and contribute innovations to the product roadmap
  • Encourage practical, responsible AI adoption across analysis, development, testing, deployment, and monitoring

Requirements

  • At least eight years of relevant professional software-development experience, ideally including architecture and system design
  • Ability to create, explain, and maintain architectures for complex systems using established patterns and modeling languages
  • Background developing embedded control systems subject to memory, performance, real-time, and peripheral constraints
  • Hands-on experience with ARM-based MCUs or MPUs, including platforms such as STM32 or Renesas RA, plus DSPs
  • Familiarity with applications that have real-time requirements
  • Strong embedded C and C++ programming skills
  • Professional experience using toolchains, debuggers, and profilers
  • Experience with low-level firmware, register access, interrupt handling, peripheral drivers, board bring-up, and oscilloscope or logic-analyzer-based hardware analysis
  • Experience with Git, Make/CMake or similar build systems, automated testing frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Understanding of code-quality practices, static analysis, and unit, integration, and system testing
  • Experience applying applicable coding standards and software-development process models
  • Understanding of functional safety and cybersecurity for embedded systems
  • Preferably three or more years in technical leadership, such as an architect or comparable senior position
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with technical and business stakeholders
  • Ability to lead design reviews and explain technical decisions to non-technical audiences
  • Experience mentoring and developing engineers
  • Power-electronics experience is highly desirable
  • Experience with model-based design and tools such as Simulink or PLECS
  • Experience working with agile or iterative development approaches
  • Awareness of emerging technologies and AI/ML applications for embedded systems
