Senior Body Controls Engineer

Develop embedded software for vehicle access, safety, and vehicle-management functions. Work on software-defined electric-vehicle platforms at Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies.

Description

  • Design and develop embedded control software for vehicle-management features, including state machines, arbitration logic, and vehicle-mode handling.
  • Translate requirements into high-level functional specifications with systems, integration, and platform partners.
  • Lead assigned features from initial development through release within a feature-focused process.
  • Integrate features across multiple ECUs and networks on bench and vehicle platforms, resolve interface issues, and prepare them for release.
  • Create and maintain diagnostic functions and interfaces supporting troubleshooting, manufacturing, and service.
  • Contribute to ISO 26262 safety analyses for passive-safety and vehicle-access features.
  • Verify features through unit, SIL, HIL, and vehicle testing, including tuning and calibration activities.
  • Investigate field and fleet issues using vehicle data and diagnostic logs.
  • Resolve functional issues spanning physical, electrical, network, and software systems.
  • Prioritize and escalate issues according to user impact, safety significance, and program goals.
  • Build embedded software for vehicle access, central locking, security, alarms, crash response, passive safety, occupant and child presence detection, AVAS and horn functions, trailer detection, and steering-wheel and button interfaces.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, computer, software engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of experience with automotive or embedded software systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in C and Python.
  • Strong knowledge of real-time operating systems and task scheduling, memory management and MPU protection, interrupts, and timing analysis.
  • Experience with CAN/CAN-FD, LIN, Automotive Ethernet, UDS, DIDs and DTCs, routines, and associated tools.
  • Background in safety-critical automotive software and functional-safety methods, including ISO 26262, FMEA, and fault-tree analysis.
  • Understanding of hardware components used in body-control systems.
  • Experience with requirements-management platforms such as JAMA or Flow.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.
  • Preferred experience includes embedded-software test automation, SIL/HIL/VHIL benches, automated regression, CI integration, AI-assisted development tools and agents, test reporting, and data pipelines.
