Description

  • Build and own backend services for payments, multi-currency balances, onboarding, compliance, settlement, and related financial products
  • Deliver new platform capabilities from initial problem definition through production release
  • Develop and maintain partner integrations and settlement systems
  • Manage production health through observability, reliability engineering, incident response, and on-call support
  • Work closely with Product, Compliance, Operations, Architecture, and Engineering stakeholders
  • Lead design reviews, guide architectural decisions, and promote consistent engineering practices
  • Mentor mid-level engineers through technical guidance and knowledge sharing
  • Advance platform modernization, including transitions from legacy systems to cloud-native architectures
  • Promote AI-assisted development tools and practices across the software delivery lifecycle
  • Coordinate with engineering teams working across multiple regions

Requirements

  • 6–10+ years of experience building and operating production-grade backend services end to end
  • Strong backend development experience, ideally with C#/.NET; experience with Java, Kotlin, Go, or another object-oriented language is also relevant
  • Proficiency with SQL and relational database technologies
  • Experience creating, maintaining, and running automated tests throughout the software delivery lifecycle
  • Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or comparable platforms
  • Strong experience with AWS, CI/CD pipelines, and modern deployment practices, including SQS, DynamoDB, S3, ECS, and Lambda
  • Advanced knowledge of software architecture, system design, microservices, service-oriented architectures, and event-driven systems
  • Experience in payments, foreign exchange, fintech, or another regulated industry
  • Technical leadership experience covering mentoring, design reviews, and architectural decision-making
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with financial systems such as ledgers, double-entry accounting, or transaction platforms
  • Experience supporting technical hiring, interviews, or onboarding
  • Experience leading platform modernization or migration programs
  • Experience with caching technologies such as Redis or Memcached
  • Familiarity with Jira and Confluence
  • Experience using API testing tools such as Postman or Bruno
  • Experience applying AI tools to automated testing and software quality engineering
  • Willingness to travel to the Christchurch office when required for meetings, collaboration sessions, and events
