Senior Android Team Lead, Core Product at Speechify (Remote)

Lead development of Speechify’s Android text-to-speech core product while remaining hands-on. You’ll guide architecture, feature delivery, reliability, releases, and team growth.

Description

  • Guide major features from initial decisions through launch in close partnership with designers
  • Track and improve reliability measures for important product capabilities
  • Review pull requests and give feedback that helps engineers grow
  • Investigate technical obstacles and help teammates resolve them
  • Turn effective solutions into shared team standards
  • Keep common components well-tested, understandable, and unified
  • Improve the team’s engineering processes
  • Automate release workflows to minimize manual corrective work
  • Solve repeated issues by improving the systems beneath them
  • Increase automated checks and move validation earlier in development
  • Lead planning and set priorities for work that needs team decisions
  • Establish review thresholds and clarify who owns approvals
  • Contribute to cross-functional Product, Design, and Engineering conversations
  • Respond to critical issues, lead feature launches, and supply nightly QA builds
  • Create learning-focused opportunities and development time for early-career engineers

Requirements

  • At least five years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on
  • Advanced proficiency with Kotlin, Coroutines, Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit
  • Experience delivering and supporting background audio or other persistent background processes
  • A practical understanding of testing strategy, including recognizing areas tests cannot adequately cover
  • Evidence of introducing a team practice that continued after your direct advocacy ended, along with an honest account of the effort involved
  • Comfort asking colleagues to change established working methods and navigating the resulting friction
  • A reasoned approach to deciding which changes require extensive review and which can follow a lighter process
  • A history of creating tools or systems that teammates adopted, beyond improvements limited to your own workflow
  • The ability to explain how your team uses AI agents, not just how you use them individually
  • Strong product judgment, user empathy, and ambition to advance Android UI and UX beyond stated requirements
  • Initiative to improve the application and codebase beyond the explicit specification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Willingness to complete multiple technical interviews and a practical assessment using a real codebase
  • Portfolio and LinkedIn profile links
