Senior Analytics Data Engineer at Grindr (Chicago Hybrid)

Build trusted datasets, semantic layers, and AI-ready analytics for Grindr’s global LGBTQ+ social platform. Work with data, product, and machine learning teams to turn business questions into reliable data solutions.

Description

  • Own key business datasets from requirements and model design through pipeline delivery, metric validation, and quality checks.
  • Build dependable data models for analytics, reporting, and AI tools such as Data Daddy.
  • Develop and maintain reusable metrics, dimensional models, and semantic definitions.
  • Make data consistent and easy for analysts and AI agents to find and use.
  • Collaborate with Data Science, ML Engineering, Product, and Analytics teams to deliver scalable data solutions.
  • Enable informed decisions, experimentation, and machine learning.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering practices to speed delivery and strengthen modeling, testing, and documentation.

Requirements

  • Strong command of SQL.
  • Background in dimensional modeling and defining business metrics.
  • Experience converting large volumes of raw event data into dependable production datasets.
  • Experience applying business logic, maintaining data transformations, and checking data quality.
  • Experience with cloud data warehouses and workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow.
  • Understanding of semantic layers, metric definitions, and reusable business logic.
  • Experience collaborating with data scientists, machine learning engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders.
  • Regular use of agentic coding tools such as Cursor, Codex, Claude Code, or similar in daily work.
  • Experience with Snowflake, Airflow, dbt, or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience building or contributing to semantic layers with Looker, dbt Semantic Layer, or similar frameworks.
  • Able to work onsite Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Chicago, San Francisco, or Palo Alto office.
  • Authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
