Senior Advisor, Reporting and Assurance – Wellington

Lead performance reporting and risk-based assurance for New Zealand’s environmental regulator in Wellington. Deliver evidence-based insights that strengthen compliance, accountability and regulatory outcomes.

Description

  • Oversee performance reporting and risk-based assurance across the Compliance, Monitoring and Enforcement Group
  • Give senior leaders and governance groups clear, evidence-based perspectives on performance, regulatory outcomes, risks and improvement opportunities
  • Develop and maintain reporting frameworks, measures and products that convert complex operational and regulatory information into practical advice
  • Lead the planning and execution of approved risk-based assurance reviews
  • Produce performance and governance reporting
  • Interpret trends and communicate their significance
  • Evaluate policies, standards and other agreed requirements
  • Present conclusions and recommendations to senior leaders
  • Help teams implement and track practical improvements
  • Integrate reporting, assurance and continuous improvement to reinforce accountability, organisational learning and regulatory performance

Requirements

  • Substantial experience producing high-quality performance, governance or regulatory reports within a complex organisation
  • Proven ability to design and conduct risk-based assurance reviews, audits, evaluations or other structured assessments
  • Strong analytical capability, including evaluating data quality, spotting trends and gaps, testing assumptions and forming well-supported conclusions
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to turn complex operational, technical or regulatory material into concise insights and actionable recommendations
  • Experience creating or enhancing reporting frameworks, performance measures, assurance methods or quality systems
  • Ability to evaluate evidence against legislation, policy, standards, procedures or other established requirements
  • Experience detecting systemic issues, tracking agreed actions and determining whether improvements delivered the intended outcomes
  • Confidence offering independent, constructive challenge, presenting findings and influencing senior leaders and subject-matter experts
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work across professional and organisational boundaries
  • Sound judgement and a methodical approach to accuracy, evidence quality, information integrity and professional records
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and produce high-quality work with limited supervision
  • Experience in a regulatory, public-sector, audit, risk, evaluation or compliance setting is advantageous
  • Relevant tertiary or professional qualifications in assurance, audit, evaluation, data analysis, public policy, risk or performance reporting are beneficial
