Risk Management Analyst (Hybrid) at American Express

Analyze and underwrite institutional credit exposures for American Express. Evaluate financial, industry, country-risk, and probability-of-default factors.

Description

  • Underwrite and rate credit exposures across the assigned region, industry, and business line
  • Perform fundamental assessments of business, financial, industry, and country risk
  • Incorporate internal and external rating-model results into credit evaluations
  • Evaluate credit-extension needs, relationship profitability, and program structures

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, statistics, or another quantitative discipline
  • Applicants from other majors with a strong interest in credit analysis are also encouraged to apply
  • 0–5 years of experience in credit analysis or a related field
  • Knowledge of fundamental financial analysis, including assessing corporate financial statements and an obligor’s ability to meet credit obligations
  • Working knowledge of GAAP/IFRS accounting, corporate valuation, and forecasting
  • Familiarity with public-agency ratings and related analytical work
  • Awareness of current macroeconomic trends and the ability to recommend improvements to probability-of-default estimates across business cycles
  • Experience developing company-specific and industry-level credit memorandums
  • Familiarity with global markets
  • Must be eligible to work for American Express in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available
  • MBA or master’s degree in finance, economics, or another quantitative field preferred
  • CFA, FRM, or comparable relevant certification is a plus
