Regional Lead Rail Engineer

Lead railroad infrastructure engineering projects across the United States while guiding technical delivery and regional growth. The role combines client development, team mentorship, quality oversight, and senior rail engineering expertise.

Description

  • Lead regional railroad projects and contribute to strategic growth initiatives.
  • Direct the planning, design, coordination, and delivery of tracks, terminals, spurs, mainlines, yards, and sidings.
  • Coordinate railroad interfaces for DOT and municipal projects involving at-grade crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings.
  • Provide senior technical guidance on rail design, grading, drainage, and related infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, railroad operators, public agencies, and industry partners.
  • Contribute to business development through client engagement, proposals, pursuits, industry organizations, and conferences.
  • Mentor engineers, designers, and junior staff across offices and project teams.
  • Partner with Project Managers and regional leaders on staffing, resource planning, and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies to maintain regulatory and railroad-standard compliance across multiple states.
  • Lead QA/QC implementation and enforcement throughout project development and delivery.
  • Help standardize rail engineering, coordination, design, and project delivery practices.
  • Travel periodically for client meetings, site visits, regional coordination, and industry events.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in rail, transit, railroad infrastructure, transportation, or land development engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary rail engineering projects and managing client relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of design standards for track, at-grade railroad crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings.
  • Experience mentoring technical staff and leading engineering teams across projects or offices is preferred.
  • Familiarity with CAD platforms and standard engineering software.
  • Strong business development, communication, leadership, and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with railroad personnel, clients, agencies, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Willingness to travel regionally as needed for project delivery and client engagement.
