Lead SAR Payload Systems Engineer - Remote

Lead the design, integration, verification, and sustainment of SAR payload subsystems for Earth-observation satellite programs. Support payload architecture, testing, mission operations, anomaly analysis, and technical coordination with customers and partner teams.

Description

  • Own SAR payload subsystem definition, design, integration, verification, and sustainment across multiple satellite programs
  • Serve as the technical liaison for customers, prime contractors, and internal engineering teams
  • Translate and trace mission-level payload requirements into subsystem requirements
  • Develop architectures spanning antenna arrays, RF transmit and receive front ends, digital beamforming, processing, electronics, power, thermal, and mass elements
  • Direct conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design activities, including trade studies and performance budgets
  • Create interface control documents, define hardware specifications, and review schematics and PCB layouts
  • Run performance simulations for tolerance analysis and image-quality assessment
  • Contribute to SAR and moving-target-indication algorithm development
  • Prepare DC power budgets, FMECA, fault trees, FDIR, and reliability analyses
  • Develop the payload verification master plan for unit, subsystem, payload, environmental, and EMC testing
  • Lead test automation activities and technical reporting
  • Support mission operations through payload health monitoring, on-orbit anomaly investigation, telemetry analysis, and operator training

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or physics
  • At least five years of experience developing, integrating, and testing remote-sensing systems for LEO or MEO missions
  • Proven technical writing ability for requirements, interface control documents, test procedures, and risk reports
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Practical experience with systems integration and testing
  • Experience using Confluence and JIRA
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong written and spoken English
  • US citizenship or permanent residency
  • French language skills are an advantage
