Lead Data Platform Administrator in Ottawa (Hybrid)

Lead data platform administrator at EDC, a Canadian government corporation supporting businesses expanding internationally. Design, operate, and govern cloud-based data platforms.

Description

  • Design, configure, develop, and operate cloud-based data and analytics platforms
  • Own the full platform lifecycle, from onboarding and upgrades through scaling, retirement, and continuous improvement
  • Establish and enforce standards for platform operations, usage, and governance
  • Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, and performance management capabilities
  • Investigate and resolve complex incidents, performance problems, and service interruptions
  • Assess tactical and operational data to uncover root causes and develop technical solutions
  • Maintain compliance with data security, privacy, and governance policies
  • Review, approve, and support database and platform specifications
  • Partner with data governance and risk teams on regulatory, audit, and compliance obligations
  • Create and maintain platform and technology roadmaps
  • Assess emerging technologies, tools, and services through proof-of-concept initiatives
  • Modernize and rationalize legacy platforms to reduce technical debt
  • Establish and monitor metrics for platform performance, cost, reliability, and adoption
  • Shape reference architectures, standards, design patterns, and principles for data and analytics
  • Create end-to-end data solution architectures covering data flows, integrations, and platform services
  • Perform focused data exploration and analysis to surface architectural, operational, and performance trends
  • Work closely with cloud, security, integration, and solution architects
  • Guide, mentor, and coach platform engineers, architects, and administrators
  • Partner with product owners and delivery teams to plan, prioritize, and deliver Agile backlogs
  • Maintain documentation for architectures, runbooks, standards, and lessons learned
  • Provide technical guidance to stakeholders across technology and business functions

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field
  • At least seven years in leadership or influence roles involving data architecture or platform administration
  • At least five years designing and operating enterprise data and analytics platforms
  • At least three years using ServiceNow ITSM or a comparable service management tool
  • Experience with ITSM practices covering incident, change, problem, and service request management
  • Hands-on experience with DevOps or DataOps, CI/CD pipelines, and platform automation
  • Experience delivering through Agile methods such as Scrum or Kanban
  • Experience with cloud or on-premises data services and platforms, including Microsoft Purview, Profisee MDM, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Denodo, or Spark
  • Knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK, DataOps, or analytics operating models
  • Experience improving cloud cost efficiency, performance, and scalability
  • Fluency in both official languages is considered an asset
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada is preferred
  • Ability to satisfy government security requirements
