Junior Roadway Engineer - Richmond, VA

Join Moffatt & Nichol as a junior roadway engineer designing transportation infrastructure, including roads, sidewalks, shoulders, and drainage systems. This onsite Richmond role supports project managers across design, documentation, estimating, permitting, and client coordination.

Description

  • Apply established civil engineering principles and practices
  • Build effective working relationships and contribute as part of a team
  • Prepare project designs, plans, quantities, cost estimates, and specifications
  • Design and document minor and major roadway projects
  • Design and document sidewalk projects
  • Design and document shoulder improvement projects
  • Design and document drainage projects
  • Support project managers with plan preparation
  • Contribute to project cost estimates
  • Assist with technical report writing
  • Support client coordination activities
  • Assist with permitting processes
  • Contribute to national workshare and potentially support projects beyond local and state markets
  • Engage with clients and travel occasionally

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering is required
  • Two to five years of experience at an engineering consulting firm is required
  • Professional experience in transportation roadway design is required
  • Experience with State DOT projects is preferred
  • Professional experience using MicroStation is required
  • Experience with AutoCAD and other computer-aided design platforms
  • Experience with Civil 3D
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment, post-offer background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States and ability to provide required employment documentation at hire
