Junior Controls Engineer (Remote, U.S.)

Support PLC, HMI, and SCADA automation systems for manufacturing and industrial customers. Help design, troubleshoot, commission, and improve control systems.

Description

  • Help design and implement automation and control systems for industrial and manufacturing processes.
  • Program, troubleshoot, and update PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
  • Assist with electrical and controls design, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
  • Work with senior engineers to test, debug, and validate systems.
  • Diagnose controls issues to reduce equipment downtime.
  • Partner with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to improve automation processes.
  • Record system changes, software configurations, and maintenance procedures.
  • Adhere to relevant industry standards, safety rules, and company guidelines.
  • Assist with field commissioning, installations, and maintenance as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, automation, mechatronics, or a related field.
  • 0–2 years of experience in industrial automation, control systems, or a related area; internships or co-ops are valued.
  • Basic PLC programming knowledge, such as Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with HMI/SCADA development and applications.
  • Understanding of industrial sensors, actuators, and motor control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel designs.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%, including overnight trips.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Preferred: Experience with electrical CAD tools such as AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.
  • Preferred: Basic programming knowledge in Python, C++, or ladder logic.
  • Preferred: Practical experience with industrial automation projects.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with robotics, motion control, and industrial protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus, or PROFIBUS.
