Junior Control Software Engineer at ABB (Hybrid, Poland)

Join ABB as a junior control software engineer developing traction-converter applications, testing and troubleshooting control software, and supporting vehicle commissioning across Poland.

Description

  • Build the application layer of control software for customer traction-converter projects, from defining software requirements through release on the completed system.
  • Produce and maintain software and technical documentation in line with applicable standards and homologation requirements.
  • Test and diagnose software using real-time simulators, laboratory setups, and other validation environments.
  • Assist customers with vehicle commissioning and homologation activities.
  • Deliver technical guidance to colleagues, other engineering disciplines, and customers throughout development, laboratory testing, homologation, initial operation, and service.
  • Work with colleagues to develop reusable technical solutions, reduce defect risk, and advance software standardization.

Requirements

  • A university degree in Control Systems, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a comparable discipline.
  • Knowledge of closed-loop control software development, signal processing, algorithms, and real-time programming concepts.
  • Experience with IEC 61131-3 languages such as CODESYS, MATLAB Simulink, and communication or fieldbus protocols including CAN, TRDP, J1939, or MVB is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with software version-control tools such as SVN or Git is advantageous.
  • Broad understanding of converter control, power electronics, or automotive systems.
  • Knowledge of software development standards such as EN 50657, EN 50128, or ISO 26262 is a plus.
  • Ability to collaborate closely within a multidisciplinary team, learn quickly, and take on new challenges.
  • Fluency in Polish and English.
  • German language skills are an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel for approximately 20% to 30% of the role.
  • Availability for night shifts and weekend work during travel periods may be required.
