Junior Android Software Engineer at PayPal (Hybrid)

Build Venmo Commerce experiences at PayPal using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. Deliver secure, data-informed payment features across a global commerce platform.

Description

  • Execute assigned work across the software development lifecycle.
  • Apply internal engineering conventions, procedures, and processes.
  • Make technical decisions in accordance with internal standards.
  • Design, develop, test, and release Android experiences for Venmo Commerce.
  • Create reusable user interfaces with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
  • Manage features from technical design and implementation through experimentation, launch, observability, and continuous improvement.
  • Connect mobile experiences with backend APIs and payment, identity, risk, search, recommendation, analytics, and platform services.
  • Deliver Android experiences that are performant, resilient, accessible, secure, and intuitive.
  • Track product funnels and experiments, using data to interpret customer behavior.
  • Work with Product and Data Science to improve product outcomes.
  • Coordinate with iOS engineers on cross-platform experiences.
  • Contribute to architecture, technical design, code, and design reviews.
  • Investigate and resolve issues affecting production systems.
  • Support the operational reliability and engineering quality of commerce experiences.
  • Collaborate with peers, the manager, and the project lead.

Requirements

  • At least one year of relevant experience plus a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience developing production Android applications with Kotlin.
  • Production experience with Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and Flow.
  • Understanding of MVVM or MVI architecture, multi-module Gradle projects, and Hilt dependency injection.
  • Experience integrating REST or GraphQL services with Retrofit and OkHttp.
  • Ability to implement practical caching and offline behavior.
  • Testing experience with JUnit, MockK, and Compose UI tests.
  • Strong written communication and ownership of features from start to finish.
  • Visa sponsorship is unavailable for this position now and in the future.
  • Preferred experience includes payments or fintech, PCI DSS awareness, Android Keystore, biometric authentication, feature flags, experimentation, accessibility, and marketplace or ecommerce products.
