Java Web Developer – United Kingdom Remote

Build and maintain Java and Spring Boot solutions for Reed in Partnership, a British public-services provider. Work on secure microservices, databases, and REST services.

Description

  • Improve, refine, and upgrade databases in line with company specifications
  • Analyse, design, develop, and unit test robust software that meets business needs
  • Help architect and implement software solutions
  • Manage assigned work, report progress, and escalate issues when necessary
  • Apply established team practices and approved code-management tools
  • Create clear technical documentation to support continued team delivery
  • Maintain existing functionality and develop new features to agreed specifications
  • Write code, conduct unit testing, and participate in code reviews
  • Maintain required system-security standards and apply best practices to new features
  • Contribute across the development lifecycle, from specification and documentation through quality assurance
  • Investigate problems and deliver practical, high-quality IT solutions
  • Share learning and recommend improvements to team processes
  • Support project delivery through testing and, when required, out-of-hours deployments
  • Report to the Head of Business Systems and keep the Business Systems Manager and relevant teams informed

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of and experience with Java
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with Spring Boot
  • Experience developing REST services
  • Knowledge of and experience with microservices
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with SQL
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with Maven
  • Knowledge of and experience with Git
  • GCSE English Language at Grade B or above, or an equivalent Level 2 qualification
  • Alternatively, Level 2 Literacy Assessment achievement at interview stage
  • Knowledge of or experience with Azure, IntelliJ, and Mockito is desirable
  • Experience working under publicly funded or government contract requirements is desirable
  • Demonstrable understanding of management information systems is desirable
  • Experience delivering high-quality advisory and guidance services to internal customers is desirable
  • Proactive and creative approach to problem-solving
  • Careful attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and collaborative working skills
  • Strong analytical capability
  • Demonstrable project management experience
  • Ability to work across multiple concurrent projects
  • Exceptional time management and organisation, with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong business and commercial awareness is desirable
  • Demonstrable experience managing data security is desirable
  • Ability to quickly absorb complex information and explain it clearly to people at all business levels is desirable
