Entry-Level Civil Engineer – Norfolk, VA | Moffatt & Nichol

Support civil site development, waterfront infrastructure design, feasibility studies, and construction documentation as an entry-level engineer at Moffatt & Nichol in Norfolk, Virginia.

Description

  • Support design and construction projects by reviewing project concepts, architectural drawings, and models.
  • Collect and evaluate reports, maps, drawings, aerial imagery, soil tests, terrain data, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geological information for engineering designs.
  • Develop feasibility studies through engineering design analysis, environmental impact assessments, and data compilation.
  • Prepare site development design documents and reports covering layouts, grading, drainage, erosion control, utilities, and related infrastructure systems.
  • Complete engineering calculations and produce cost estimates, drawings, technical specifications, and reports.
  • Help develop construction specifications, plans, schedules, and other engineering documentation.
  • Conduct limited field observations to support construction activities and data collection.
  • Travel to and participate in occasional site visits as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required.
  • Engineer in Training certification is preferred.
  • Requires 0–2 years of experience as a civil engineer.
  • Related internship experience is required for entry-level candidates.
  • Experience with site layout, stormwater, erosion control, utilities, and other infrastructure systems is preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D is required.
  • MicroStation experience and familiarity with stormwater modeling in WaterCAD or SWMM are desired.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills are required.
  • Must be available and willing to travel.
  • Must provide post-offer proof of U.S. citizenship.
  • Must successfully complete a thorough post-offer background check, which may include credit and criminal history.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment, post-offer background check compliant with NIST 800-171.
  • Must be legally able to obtain employment in the U.S. and present required documentation at hire.
  • Must be able to navigate unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment during some site visits.
