Engineering Manager, AI and CI/CD — Chainguard (Remote, United States)

Lead an engineering team developing secure AI and CI/CD developer tools at Chainguard, an open-source software security company. Drive roadmaps, technical execution, hiring, and customer-informed product iteration.

Description

  • Lead a fast-moving team delivering Guardener, hardened GitHub Actions, Chainguard Agent Skills, and products built on a microVM sandbox platform.
  • Manage the full product lifecycle, from roadmap definition through implementation, rollout, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit, lead, and develop a small team of engineers.
  • Clear obstacles and foster an environment where engineers can perform at their best.
  • Review designs and pull requests, prototype when useful, and remain actively involved in technical work.
  • Collaborate with Product on deadline-driven roadmaps, making tradeoffs and delivering iteratively.
  • Bring structure and direction to ambiguous technical and product challenges.
  • Take responsibility for the quality and reliability of released products.
  • Work closely with customers and use their feedback to shape the roadmap.

Requirements

  • At least two years of experience managing engineers.
  • A record of delivering products or major features and taking ownership of their outcomes.
  • A strong technical foundation, with the ability to read code, review designs, and evaluate architectural choices and tradeoffs.
  • Proficiency in Go or a demonstrated ability and willingness to become productive quickly.
  • Experience developing CI/CD systems, developer tools, or customer-facing platforms.
  • Working knowledge of containers, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience with AI tools and genuine interest in applying them to challenging customer problems.
  • Comfort working autonomously amid ambiguity, taking action, and delivering in iterative steps.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with Product and customers.
