Engineer II, Materials Engineering - Hybrid

Materials Engineer supporting Honeywell Aerospace electronics assemblies, coatings, adhesives, and chemical processes. Leads laboratory analysis, failure investigations, material selection, and process development for aerospace manufacturing.

Description

  • Support production and engineering teams working with electronics assemblies, sealants, coatings, adhesives, chemical processing, and engineering substantiation or source approval
  • Provide intermediate materials and process expertise to Production, Design, and Quality teams
  • Create test plans and conduct hands-on evaluations of nonmetallic materials
  • Assist with receiving inspection, process development, failure analysis, and engineering investigations
  • Conduct and interpret thermal analysis using DMA, TGA, DSC, TMA, and TG-IR techniques
  • Lead failure investigations using SEM/EDS, FTIR, CT X-ray, microscopy, XRF, and mechanical testing
  • Evaluate adhesives including epoxies, polyurethanes, silicones, and acrylics
  • Select materials and develop potting, bonding, staking, underfilling, and conformal-coating processes for electronic assemblies
  • Prepare and maintain material and process specifications and inspection procedures
  • Find alternate materials and replacements to address materials obsolescence
  • Qualify materials and conduct laboratory tests for production and receiving inspection
  • Guide technicians and engineers in resolving process issues
  • Work with suppliers to diagnose problems and provide durable technical guidance
  • Report to the Senior Engineering Manager

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical field such as science, technology, engineering, or mathematics
  • At least 3 years of experience spanning Materials & Process, Design & Applications, and laboratory testing in support of engineering and production
  • Experience with adhesives, conformal coatings, sealants, paints, wires, chemical processing, and printed circuit board assemblies
  • Experience developing potting, bonding, staking, and underfilling processes for electronic assemblies
  • Understanding of coatings and their process applications
  • Experience directing laboratory work and failure investigations
  • Experience finding alternate materials to address obsolescence
  • Must be a U.S. person, defined as a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or person with protected U.S. asylum or refugee status
  • Must currently be authorized to work full time in the United States
  • Honeywell will not sponsor work visas for this position
