Director, Financial Crimes Investigation Data | American Express

American Express is seeking a director to lead data products supporting financial crime investigations. The role spans strategy, governance, analytics, modernization, and regulatory readiness across risk and technology teams.

Description

  • Own the Financial Crimes Investigations data product strategy and roadmap in line with FCRM priorities, enterprise risk appetite, and regulatory obligations.
  • Set and prioritize forward-looking data requirements and capabilities for investigations, advanced analytics, dynamic risk modeling, and changing regulatory needs.
  • Act as the Investigations data subject matter expert and product leader across GFCC, FCRM Centers of Excellence, Technology, Data Science, and Operations.
  • Direct end-to-end delivery of Investigations Data Products by converting business and regulatory needs into scalable data capabilities and domains.
  • Work with Technology to design, build, test, and implement scalable, resilient, reusable data products.
  • Collaborate with Data Science to apply advanced analytics, AI, and automation to improve financial crime investigation effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Modernize the Investigations data ecosystem to strengthen accessibility, scalability, usability, and operational performance.
  • Embed data governance, quality standards, controls, and regulatory obligations across the full data product lifecycle.
  • Contribute to governance forums, regulatory examinations, and internal audits involving Investigations data products and capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related discipline.
  • At least 15 years of experience in data products, data management, technology, or a related field, including leadership of complex enterprise data products.
  • Demonstrated data product management expertise across strategy, roadmaps, requirements, prioritization, delivery, adoption, and performance measurement.
  • Strong knowledge of modern data concepts and architectures, including data products, domains, models, APIs or data services, integration, metadata, lineage, and quality.
  • Experience working with Technology and Engineering teams throughout the complete product and software development lifecycle.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance and controls, including incorporating governance requirements into product design and delivery.
  • Experience with Agile product development methods and tools, including PRDs, user stories, backlogs, roadmaps, and JIRA.
  • Proven ability to lead large-scale, cross-functional programs and influence stakeholders in a highly matrixed organization.
  • Strong strategic judgment, problem-solving, executive communication, and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Must be eligible to work for American Express in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.
  • Preferred: experience developing data products in financial services or another highly regulated sector.
  • Preferred: experience using reusable data products to support AI/ML, advanced analytics, entity resolution, network analytics, or other data-intensive capabilities.
  • Preferred: knowledge of data governance, model risk, privacy, information security, and regulatory obligations for financial crime data.
  • Preferred: background in Financial Crime Risk Management, AML, financial crime investigations, sanctions, or related compliance and risk functions.
