Cribl/Splunk Engineer — Remote, United States

Valiant Solutions seeks a remote Cribl/Splunk Engineer to build secure, cost-efficient data pipelines. The role supports cybersecurity operations, compliance, infrastructure maintenance, and SOC incident response.

Description

  • Build and implement processes that ingest data from diverse sources into Splunk through Cribl Edge and Cribl Cloud.
  • Configure and manage log, metric, and event inputs to assess compliance with OMB M-26-14 requirements at the FISMA system boundary.
  • Maintain secure, dependable connections between Splunk and external systems or data sources using Cribl Edge and Cribl Cloud.
  • Monitor failed-data-input alerts and keep related alerting processes operational.
  • Design and recommend Cribl configurations that improve performance and reduce costs.
  • Implement cost-efficient log storage strategies that satisfy OMB M-26-14 standards.
  • Oversee Cribl and Splunk infrastructure configuration and maintenance for security and performance.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to diagnose and resolve Cribl and Splunk issues.
  • Perform incident root-cause analysis and introduce measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Track tool health and performance to identify defects, operational issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Create, review, and maintain operational materials such as SOPs, job aids, application checklists, and playbooks.
  • Support access-control activities covering account management, access enforcement, information-flow enforcement, least privilege, and user-account request and recertification workflows.
  • Partner with SOC teams on process improvement, tool tuning and integration, information sharing, playbook creation, and incident response.
  • Implement, administer, operate, maintain, optimize, and integrate cybersecurity tools, technologies, and services.
  • Carry out recurring Cribl/Splunk Enterprise upgrades for worker nodes, deployment servers, heavy forwarders, and syslog servers.

Requirements

  • At least four years of information technology experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering, or a related field, or two additional years of experience.
  • Three or more years of Splunk administration or engineering experience.
  • Proficiency configuring and managing Splunk inputs, building ingestion pipelines, and establishing system connections.
  • Knowledge of Splunk Search Processing Language (SPL), data parsing, and regular expressions for data extraction and transformation.
  • Experience optimizing data pipelines for performance and efficiency, managing large data volumes, and applying data-integrity and consistency practices.
  • Cribl Certified Service Consultant (CCSC) or Cribl Certified Engineer (CC Engineer) certification preferred.
  • Cribl Certified Admin certification for Stream and/or Edge accepted.
  • Splunk Enterprise or Splunk Cloud Certified Admin certification is a bonus.
  • Engineering team lead experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, including effective task prioritization and execution.
  • A quiet, distraction-free workspace with reliable internet access.

  • Availability during core business hours aligned with coworkers and Valiant Solutions clients.
  • Disclosure of current or future outside employment and written approval for outside professional activities.
  • Ability to sit or stand at a desk for extended periods and operate a computer consistently.
  • Ability to frequently communicate and exchange accurate information electronically, by phone, and in person.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move moderate weights, typically under 20 pounds.
