Lambda
Lambda
Lambda provides cloud infrastructure and hardware for AI development. Its offerings include on-demand GPU clusters for multi-node model training and fine-tuning, inference endpoints and APIs, and the Lambda GPU Cloud with NVIDIA GPU infrastructure for enterprise AI workloads. The company also supplies customizable GPU workstations and desktops for deep learning, along with streamlined installation and managed upgrades for tools such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and NVIDIA CUDA. Lambda supports AI developers through both public and private cloud environments built around high-performance NVIDIA Tensor Core GPUs.

Core Cloud Platform Engineering Manager

Lead the team building Lambda’s foundational Kubernetes and distributed cloud services for AI infrastructure. The role covers team development, technical delivery, reliability, and operations across multiple regions.

Description

  • Direct the design, development, and production operation of Lambda’s foundational cloud platform services.
  • Set the technical roadmap to improve platform distribution, resilience, observability, and operational efficiency.
  • Keep services reliable across a growing multi-datacenter, multi-region fleet, including during partial failures and long-running workflows.
  • Work with senior and staff engineers on architecture for distributed services, stateful systems, APIs, schedulers, controllers, and automation.
  • Set integration contracts between the cloud platform and compute, networking, fleet, security, and customer-facing systems.
  • Manage and grow a team of senior and staff engineers through hiring, development, performance standards, and performance management.
  • Plan, prioritize, and deliver projects in line with business goals and customer commitments.
  • Set engineering practices for design reviews, testing, CI/CD, observability, incident response, and on-call operations.
  • Coordinate with fellow engineering managers and cross-functional partners to resolve dependencies and deliver customer outcomes.
  • Increase engineering capacity with automation, operating practices, and responsible use of AI-assisted engineering.
  • Apply advances in Kubernetes, cloud-native infrastructure, GPU orchestration, and platform automation to Lambda’s platform.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of engineering management experience, with a record of building high-performing teams.
  • At least 7 years of individual-contributor software engineering experience, including principal- or staff-level ownership of critical distributed systems.
  • At least 8 years building business-critical services in Python or Go, from initial design through production.
  • Experience building systems that coordinate independently owned infrastructure services, such as compute, networking, and storage, without directly owning those services.
  • Background in multi-region deployment, cross-datacenter state management, and highly available architectures.
  • A strong record of owning projects from architecture through delivery, operations, and ongoing improvement.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, including aligning infrastructure, platform, and product teams.
  • Understanding of the evolving bare-metal and GPU infrastructure landscape, including NVIDIA NiCo (NCX Infra Controller) and BlueField DPU capabilities.
  • Experience evaluating or adopting vendor infrastructure tools within an existing platform.
  • Kubernetes or Slurm experience is a plus.
  • Experience in the AI, machine learning, or GPU hardware industry is a plus.
  • Experience designing large-scale cloud IaaS platforms from the ground up is a plus.
  • Exposure to IPO readiness, enterprise compliance, or large-scale security requirements is a plus.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Benefits

  • Cash and equity compensation.
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents.
  • Wellness and commuter stipends for select roles.
  • 401(k) plan with a 2% company match for U.S. employees.
