Commissioning Editor, ELT Content — London Hybrid

Lead the creation of print and digital English language teaching content for Macmillan Education, part of Springer Nature. Coordinate authors, editors and publishing teams working across London or Madrid.

Description

  • Research and commission print and digital ELT content from initial concept through handover to Delivery
  • Appoint authors and contributors while partnering with market research, local markets, and Global and Local Brand teams
  • Shape compelling concepts that clearly demonstrate the Customer Value Proposition
  • Brief and manage internal, freelance and outsourced teams to deliver high-quality materials on time and within budget
  • Provide matrix-management mentorship to Senior and Development Editors
  • Partner with the Publisher and Senior Commissioning Editor to execute a profitable business plan
  • Investigate and create new publishing approaches with the Global Content and Methodologies team
  • Coordinate with Content Development, Publishing Operations, Sales and Marketing, Digital Product, and Procurement stakeholders
  • Contribute to segment strategy, publishing plans, market intelligence, and competitor analysis
  • Use school visits, classroom observations, and desk research to guide concept development
  • Create samples, assess potential authors and contributors, and contribute to business cases and project costing
  • Plan project schedules, direct content development, give actionable feedback, and uphold quality standards
  • Brief content developers and packagers on specifications, responsibilities, timelines, and working practices
  • Administer contracts for authors, contributors, and suppliers
  • Contribute to digital product development and maintain alignment with segment and concept requirements
  • Plan external resources, track budgets, and recommend actions to address over- or underspend
  • Contribute to employee development, delegation, wellbeing, and diversity, equity, and inclusion awareness
  • Stay informed about ELT/EFL developments, attend industry conferences, and build professional networks

Requirements

  • Knowledge of ELT markets, particularly the Pre-Primary and Primary segments in Spain
  • Proven ELT publishing experience at project-leadership level, including successful ELT/EFL product development
  • Strong English language teaching experience and awareness of varied international teaching and learning contexts
  • Excellent written English skills
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines while handling multiple priorities
  • Understanding of publishing technologies and willingness to learn new systems
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of content management systems
  • Positive outlook and commitment to the company’s objectives
  • Strong collaboration and organisational abilities
  • Experience using a variety of new media
  • Knowledge of an additional language is desirable
