Category Manager III, Facilities and Utilities – Owens & Minor (Remote Virginia)

Owns facilities and utilities procurement for Owens & Minor, leading sourcing, negotiations, supplier performance, and category strategy. The role advances cost reduction, compliance, risk management, and enterprise procurement value.

Description

  • Manage medium-to-large indirect procurement categories
  • Lead sourcing initiatives that improve cost, quality, service, supplier performance, and business value
  • Build multiyear category strategies, opportunity pipelines, sourcing plans, initiative portfolios, and category roadmaps
  • Assess market intelligence, supplier segmentation, demand patterns, and risk mitigation actions
  • Implement category strategies and take ownership of strategic sourcing outcomes
  • Direct end-to-end sourcing events, including stakeholder alignment, supplier selection, RFP and RFQ execution, analysis, negotiations, and award recommendations
  • Shape negotiation approaches covering commercial value, service expectations, risk, contract flexibility, and supplier performance
  • Collaborate with Legal, Finance, Compliance, and business stakeholders on contracts and business decisions
  • Oversee strategic supplier relationships, performance reviews, issue resolution, and continuous improvement
  • Achieve annual P&L reduction and protection goals through sourcing, negotiation, demand management, supplier optimization, working capital, savings pipelines, benefit validation, and budget impact
  • Measure sourcing outcomes, confirm benefits with Finance, and contribute to leadership reporting
  • Create preferred supplier programs and governance for professional services
  • Build executive stakeholder partnerships and strengthen Procurement’s role as a strategic business function
  • Work with the CFO, Finance, General Counsel, and corporate business leaders
  • Implement a Finance-supported spend control tower to improve functional budget visibility
  • Lead complex cross-functional programs and influence senior decision-makers
  • Drive change management for procurement strategies, processes, and technologies
  • Reconcile stakeholder priorities with governance, risk controls, and business needs
  • Promote collaboration, accountability, and ongoing improvement
  • Act as the procurement subject matter expert for assigned indirect categories
  • Guide stakeholders on procurement processes, market conditions, supplier alternatives, and commercial strategy
  • Coach developing Category Managers, Analysts, and sourcing team members
  • Apply digital procurement technology, data analytics, and process automation to improve decisions and stakeholder results
  • Use procurement platforms and analytical tools for category planning, sourcing delivery, supplier management, and performance reporting

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5–7 years of experience in procurement, sourcing, supply chain, finance, operations, or relevant category management
  • Proven ability to lead competitive sourcing events from start to finish, including RFPs, RFQs, and RFIs
  • Supplier negotiation experience
  • Experience overseeing strategic supplier relationships
  • Experience improving quality, service, innovation, and total cost of ownership
  • Experience sourcing and negotiating facilities management, maintenance and repair, janitorial, security, HVAC, capital projects, energy, electric, natural gas, water, waste management, and related utility services
  • Experience creating category strategies and optimizing supplier portfolios
  • Track record of delivering sustainable cost reductions
  • Experience using procurement platforms and analytical tools
  • Ability to apply digital procurement technology, data analytics, and process automation
