Category Manager, Automotive Performance & Powersports — CarParts.com

Lead the automotive performance parts P&L at CarParts.com while helping expand its powersports business. Drive assortment, pricing, vendor partnerships, merchandising, and profitable growth across high-SKU categories.

Description

  • Manage the P&L for automotive performance parts, including exhaust, intake, suspension and lift kits, performance lighting, engine and drivetrain products, and interior and exterior upgrades.
  • Develop assortment, pricing, and vendor strategies that increase revenue and margin.
  • Support the launch and growth of the powersports category across ATV/UTV, motorcycle, and side-by-side parts and accessories.
  • Set revenue, gross margin, and contribution margin targets while creating annual category plans and quarterly forecasts.
  • Analyze market trends, enthusiast segments, emerging vehicle platforms, sales, conversion, margin, inventory, returns, and defect rates.
  • Manage brand and SKU assortments, close assortment gaps, onboard brands and product lines, and discontinue underperforming SKUs.
  • Maintain accurate ACES/PIES fitment data, product content, images, attributes, compliance flags, and state restrictions.
  • Build and manage relationships with performance brands, manufacturers, and warehouse distributors.
  • Negotiate product costs, commercial terms, co-op and MDF funding, rebates, drop-ship arrangements, and MAP/UMAP compliance.
  • Conduct vendor reviews using scorecards for fill rate, lead time, data quality, and returns.
  • Establish pricing direction and coordinate the annual promotional calendar with pricing and marketing teams.
  • Evaluate promotional ROI and refine future campaign plans.
  • Collaborate with marketing, supply chain, catalog, analytics, site, and search teams on merchandising, inventory, content, navigation, filters, and search relevance.
  • Monitor competitors, marketplaces, and customer feedback to identify growth opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, supply chain, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in category management, merchandising, buying, or product management, ideally within automotive aftermarket or performance parts.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a category P&L with measurable revenue and margin improvement.
  • Practical experience negotiating vendor costs, terms, and marketing funds.
  • Strong analytical capability, including SQL development and Databricks experience.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling.
  • Ability to work with business intelligence platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
  • Working knowledge of aftermarket fitment data, including ACES/PIES, and MAP policies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present recommendations to leaders and vendors.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10–15% for vendor meetings and industry events such as SEMA and AAPEX.
  • E-commerce or digital retail experience in a high-SKU catalog environment is preferred.
  • Experience creating Databricks dashboards or automated reporting is preferred.
  • Established relationships with major performance brands and distributors are preferred.
  • Knowledge of emissions requirements, including CARB EO numbers and EPA rules, along with lighting regulations is preferred.
  • Automotive or powersports enthusiast experience is preferred.
  • Experience with marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay Motors, and Walmart is preferred.
