Backend Software Engineer (Go/Python) – London Hybrid

Build Go and Python microservices, APIs, and data pipelines for ExTrac’s decision intelligence platform. Improve scalability, reliability, and performance in partnership with analysts and engineering teams.

Description

  • Own features, components, and APIs across the system from development through delivery
  • Participate in system design and architecture discussions
  • Develop and maintain APIs for internal teams and customers
  • Create Go and Python microservices for data collection, processing, and querying
  • Ensure services meet production requirements for latency, cost, and reliability
  • Implement instrumentation for monitoring service performance
  • Build and operate high-throughput data streaming pipelines
  • Increase pipeline scalability, resilience, and responsiveness
  • Optimise database and index performance
  • Collaborate with analysts to translate product feedback into system changes
  • Evaluate product requests against longer-term platform priorities
  • Work with AI and frontend teams on cross-functional features
  • Contribute to deployment pipelines, service templates, observability, and engineering environments

Requirements

  • Eligibility to obtain UK security clearance
  • Nationality from a NATO member state, Australia, or New Zealand
  • At least two years of professional software engineering experience
  • Track record of building and shipping production-grade services
  • Experience owning features or components end to end within a larger system
  • Proficiency with Go or Python microservices and the ability to learn the other quickly
  • Practical knowledge of software engineering patterns
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities
  • Ability to write clear technical documentation and discuss requirements with engineering and wider team colleagues
  • Interest in deployment pipelines, database behaviour, and security engineering
  • Interest in product usage and willingness to incorporate analyst feedback into requirements discussions
  • Go microservices experience is desirable
  • Experience with Elasticsearch or PostgreSQL is desirable
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD pipelines is desirable
  • Experience with streaming or event-driven pipelines is desirable
  • Experience with feature flags and trunk-based development is desirable
  • Experience in defence, government, or other compliance-constrained software environments is desirable
