Backend Developer (PHP/Laravel) – Remote Germany

Join Händlerbund’s legal-tech platform for e-commerce businesses as a PHP/Laravel backend developer. Build scalable backends, APIs, and integrations within an agile team.

Description

  • Develop and improve Laravel-based backend functionality
  • Convert business needs into clear, maintainable, and testable code
  • Build and support REST APIs and, where relevant, GraphQL APIs
  • Connect and assess external services, partner platforms, and third-party systems
  • Maintain strong code quality through reviews, automated tests, refactoring, and clean implementation
  • Document APIs, interfaces, and integrations and keep that documentation current
  • Help plan, deliver, and refine features in an agile setting, including sprint planning and retrospectives
  • Assess and introduce suitable frameworks, libraries, and development tools
  • Work with the agile team on technical decisions, code quality, and ongoing product improvement
  • Own work end to end, from agreeing the solution to deploying it

Requirements

  • Practical experience building web applications with Laravel or a comparable framework
  • Knowledge of designing maintainable systems, dependable business logic, and reliable interfaces
  • Background in developing and integrating APIs and connecting external services
  • A structured, transparent, and clean engineering style focused on maintainability and quality
  • Experience working in agile teams, preferably with Scrum
  • Familiarity with Livewire, ideally alongside Alpine.js, Flux UI, and Tailwind CSS is advantageous
  • DevOps knowledge involving cloud systems, PaaS platforms, containers, CI/CD, or Linux server administration is advantageous
  • Experience with e-commerce platforms and plugin or app development, such as Shopify or JTL, is advantageous
  • Testing experience with PHPUnit or Pest is advantageous
  • Knowledge of event-driven systems, queues, or asynchronous processing is advantageous
  • Experience working with modular applications and sizable codebases is advantageous
  • Exposure to AI-enabled features, automation, or product-focused AI applications is advantageous
  • Systems thinking, a practical problem-solving mindset, ownership, and an organized working style
  • Ability to manage responsibilities independently from solution alignment through deployment
  • Willingness to use AI tools in everyday development and assess their product value
