Autonomy Systems Engineer Onsite in Irving

Integrate and validate autonomous machine systems for Caterpillar construction equipment. This full-time onsite role is based in Irving, with an initial Central Illinois option and relocation required.

Description

  • Apply autonomous system solutions and technologies to semi-autonomous or fully autonomous machines.
  • Translate customer requirements into L6 system-level requirements.
  • Partner with Machine Systems teams to deliver autonomous machine features.
  • Maintain clear documentation and requirements traceability.
  • Integrate and validate autonomy solutions on surface-loading machines.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise on autonomous solutions for surface-loading machines.
  • Report system readiness and technical risks to stakeholders.
  • Define requirements and system architecture for integrating autonomy with the base machine.
  • Integrate onboard electronic systems.
  • Conduct hands-on work in laboratory and on-machine environments.
  • Communicate designs, tradeoffs, project objectives, and progress to stakeholders, leaders, team members, and external partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited engineering, computer science, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated systems engineering experience supporting product development teams working across software and hardware.
  • Experience partnering with systems integration and validation teams during engineering product development.
  • Experience in the construction or mining industry.
  • Knowledge of autonomous systems and hardware, including vision technologies such as cameras, lidar, and radar, as well as G&SS and IMU.
  • Working knowledge of autonomy ecosystems in mining or construction, or of other autonomous control-system architectures.
  • Knowledge or experience with wheel loaders, excavators, or articulated trucks is preferred.
  • Ability to support production products from design and implementation through customer rollout and support.
  • Ability to break complex customer requirements into achievable technical requirements.
  • Ability to document designs, requirements, and success criteria.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Successful completion of a drug screening is required.
