Associate Data Operations Engineer - Hybrid in Cluj-Napoca
Support FanDuel’s sports technology data infrastructure through incident monitoring, pipeline optimization, and data quality improvements. Work with Redshift, Databricks, and related data engineering tools in a hybrid Cluj-Napoca role.
Description
- Monitor internal channels and system dashboards for data and technology issues
- Escalate Tier 2 and Tier 3 tickets while helping resolve production incidents within service-level agreements
- Provide on-call technical support to analysts and other data users
- Assist with query optimization, reporting anomaly investigations, and complex pipeline troubleshooting
- Track query performance, locate bottlenecks, and improve database efficiency
- Help design and develop data warehouse solutions with Redshift and Databricks
- Communicate platform improvement opportunities through dashboards and data modelling
- Investigate and resolve data quality issues identified by alerts or stakeholders
- Build batch and real-time pipelines for data warehouses and lakes using transformation technologies
- Maintain pipeline and infrastructure documentation, troubleshooting procedures, monitoring guidance, and knowledge-base content
- Promote operational best practices for user support, monitoring, incident response, and problem management
- Find automation opportunities, improve data delivery pipelines, and help scale infrastructure
- Support compliance activities for data services and systems during internal and external audits
- Contribute to core pipelines, data validation, engineering metrics, and infrastructure strategy
- Work in an agile team alongside specialists in cloud warehousing, analytics, data engineering, and machine learning
Requirements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, including root-cause analysis and practical resolution design
- A customer-focused approach to high-quality support and careful attention to detail
- Intermediate SQL proficiency
- Programming experience in Python, Java, R, or a similar language
- Experience with dimensional data modelling
- Experience with batch data ingestion
- Working knowledge of data warehousing and ETL/ELT processes
- Experience using cloud databases such as AWS Redshift or Databricks
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with orchestration and monitoring tools such as Airflow, Datadog, or Databand
- Familiarity with visualization platforms such as Tableau or Looker
- Advanced English proficiency
- Curiosity about AI and emerging technologies, with a willingness to keep learning, adapt, and share knowledge
- Experience with data streaming patterns
- Experience with ETL/ELT tools such as dbt
- Exposure to database design and performance analysis
- Exposure to data quality metrics and unit-testing practices
- Exposure to continuous integration and continuous delivery tools such as Buildkite or GitHub Actions
