Android Engineer – Kotlin & Jetpack Compose (Hybrid, Netherlands)

Build Kotlin and Jetpack Compose features for Polarsteps’ travel app as part of a product-focused Android team. Deliver complete mobile experiences used by more than 20 million travelers.

Description

  • Work with team leads and Android engineers in a small, fast-moving product team
  • Build Android features in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose and some Kotlin Multiplatform
  • Own delivery from requirements and tickets through testing, CI/CD, documentation, rollout, and post-release monitoring
  • Assess how releases perform for travelers and investigate follow-up issues
  • Review and test colleagues’ work across design, architecture, and user-facing quality
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers across teams to shape the product
  • Modernize the codebase while balancing technical quality with practical delivery
  • Take turns managing and monitoring application releases
  • Use AI tools in daily development, assess emerging tools, and share findings with the team

Requirements

  • Currently based in the Netherlands
  • Strong Kotlin skills, including Coroutines and Flows
  • Experience with Jetpack Compose and Navigation
  • Understanding of SOLID, MVVM, clean architecture, and multi-module Gradle projects
  • Experience designing offline-first and background-first applications
  • Experience publishing an Android app to the Play Store with multiple end-to-end features
  • Ability to write and select appropriate unit, screenshot, and UI tests
  • Product-minded awareness of UI and UX
  • Daily experience using and evaluating modern AI tools
  • Collaborative mindset with critical thinking, reliable follow-through, and a willingness to learn
  • Curiosity about Android, mobile development, and travel
  • Bonus: SQLite or Room experience
  • Bonus: Screenshot or Espresso UI testing experience
  • Bonus: Maps or location-based applications, including Mapbox
  • Bonus: Kotlin Multiplatform experience
  • Bonus: Python, Docker, platform architecture, scale-up or startup experience, or an app in the store with real users
  • Bonus: Experience working at a scale-up or startup
  • Bonus: A published app of your own, ideally with real users
