AI Automation Engineer - Chicago Onsite

Build secure AI workflows, integrations, and Microsoft Copilot solutions for Dentons’ global legal operations. Support attorneys and business teams through automation, governance, and generative AI applications.

Description

  • Create, deploy, and maintain AI-enabled workflows, agents, Copilot extensions, plugins, and integrations with Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Platform, Azure AI Foundry, and Microsoft 365.
  • Assess, prototype, and deliver secure generative AI solutions for legal and administrative applications, including document summarization, contract review assistance, intake automation, and retrieval-augmented generation.
  • Enhance and maintain Power Apps and SharePoint solutions, replacing manual or legacy processes with AI-driven automation where appropriate.
  • Work with attorneys, practice groups, and business teams to uncover valuable opportunities, convert requirements into scalable solutions, and develop proofs of concept before implementation.
  • Build and maintain production-ready code, APIs, integrations, tests, and deployment workflows using established development and version-control practices.
  • Apply client confidentiality, ethical wall, data privacy, security, responsible AI, and data governance standards required in legal practice.
  • Train attorneys, paralegals, and staff on new AI tools and workflows, supported by clear documentation and practical guidance.
  • Track advances in AI and LLM technologies, recommend suitable tools and methods, and assess and communicate the business value of implemented solutions.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support the role.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of professional software development experience, or equivalent demonstrated ability, with strong coding skills beyond low-code and no-code platforms.
  • Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language, such as C#, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Ability to write, debug, test, review, and maintain production-quality code and existing codebases.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD, APIs, data structures, integration patterns, and standard software development lifecycle practices.
  • Experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Platform—including Power Apps, Power Automate, and Dataverse—SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Graph API integrations.
  • Familiarity with Azure AI services such as Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, and Azure AI Foundry.
  • Familiarity with prompt engineering and retrieval-augmented generation architectures.
  • Understanding of AI governance, responsible AI, data privacy, and security requirements in regulated or legal environments.
  • Curiosity and a builder’s mindset, with sound judgment regarding code, architecture, and technical tradeoffs.
  • Hands-on experience with multiple AI development tools or ecosystems, such as Anthropic Claude or OpenAI Codex, for coding assistance, agentic workflows, or document applications is a plus.
  • Experience with legal technology platforms such as iManage, NetDocuments, or document automation tools, and/or prior work in a law firm or professional services environment is a plus.
