- Have at least four years of related engineering experience and a bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program, typically; alternatively, have two years of related experience and an engineering master's degree or PhD from an ABET-accredited program
- A bachelor's degree in engineering technology is accepted if you obtain a certified Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Alternatively, hold a bachelor's degree in non-ABET engineering plus an engineering master's degree or PhD from a university with an ABET-accredited bachelor's program
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred
- Apply advanced engineering expertise
- Know relevant products, developments, technologies, procedures, equipment, systems, and component relationships
- Interpret codes and regulations and develop standards
- Use scheduling methods such as CPM, PERT, and flow charts
- Analyze complex or conflicting information and solve problems
- Prepare technical reports for management, professional societies, and regulatory bodies
