  • Set strategy and take overall responsibility for analytics engineering across Life & Retirement.
  • Turn business priorities into roadmaps for governed data products, semantic models, curated datasets, and reusable transformation frameworks.
  • Build scalable engineering practices that improve data quality, reliability, accessibility, adoption, and time to insight.
  • Set architectural direction and oversee technical quality for analytics engineering solutions.
  • Define standards for data modeling, semantic layers, quality, testing, validation, documentation, governance, monitoring, observability, reliability, automation, CI/CD, and reusable transformations.
  • Guide the creation of trusted analytical data products and governed metric definitions.
  • Oversee scalable cloud data solutions that meet enterprise architecture, security, and governance requirements.
  • Manage initiatives from intake through development, implementation, adoption, and production support.
  • Set portfolio priorities, allocate capacity, and manage resources, dependencies, and risks.
  • Track portfolio performance and ensure initiatives deliver measurable business value.
  • Lead development and implementation of Horace Mann’s enterprise data warehouse.
  • Work with Life & Retirement leaders and teams across Analytics, Enterprise Data, Architecture, Security, Data Governance, and Technology.
  • Convert complex business needs into scalable data strategies and engineering priorities.
  • Lead, coach, and develop analytics engineering professionals.
  • Set performance expectations, development plans, and succession strategies.
  • Advance modernization, automation, standardization, reusable frameworks, and continuous improvement.

Talablar

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • At least 8 years of progressive experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, business intelligence, data modeling, or related fields.
  • At least 3 years leading technical teams or leads, or managing a substantial technical delivery portfolio.
  • Success building trusted, reusable analytical data products, governed metric and semantic layers, and scalable cloud data solutions.
  • Advanced expertise in analytics engineering, data architecture, data modeling, and enterprise data product development.
  • Ability to set technical direction and oversee complex analytics engineering initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, security, and enterprise architecture principles.
  • Experience turning business priorities into technical roadmaps and measurable outcomes.
  • Ability to lead organizational change, establish scalable engineering practices, and drive adoption of new capabilities.
  • Strong strategic thinking, communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills.
  • Preferred: hands-on experience with Snowflake, dbt or similar transformation tools, Power BI semantic models, SQL, Python, and CI/CD practices.
  • Preferred: experience in insurance, retirement, financial services, or another regulated industry.
  • Preferred: a master’s degree, MBA, or advanced quantitative degree.
