Staff Embedded Software Engineer — Linux, Yocto and Drivers

Build reliable embedded Linux, driver, and Yocto platforms for Observable Space’s robotic telescopes and on-orbit computing systems. Bring up high-speed hardware and develop autonomous systems designed for long-term operation.

Descriere

  • Develop and maintain embedded Linux systems for robotic ground telescopes and on-orbit computing platforms
  • Architect, implement, and document reliable systems built from daemons, services, and hardware interfaces
  • Own the BSP and driver stack for PCIe, SPI, I2C, UART, MIPI CSI-2, GPIO, and related interfaces
  • Bring up high-speed peripherals, including PCIe endpoints, MIPI cameras, and high-bandwidth data links
  • Maintain reproducible, hardened Yocto builds with rigorous CI/CD testing gates
  • Design autonomous systems that can operate for years with minimal human intervention
  • Partner with the test team to build hardware-in-the-loop laboratory infrastructure
  • Contribute to product reviews focused on manufacturability, serviceability, and field reliability
  • Report to the Embedded Engineering Lead
  • Collaborate with electrical and mechanical teams, interpret schematics, debug edge cases, and own Yocto-based platforms at the hardware level

Cerințe

  • At least five years of experience in embedded software engineering or systems-level development
  • Advanced proficiency in C and modern C++
  • Knowledge of DC power systems, motor drivers, and interfaces such as I2C, SPI, CAN, Ethernet, MIPI, and PCIe
  • Experience bringing up high-speed interfaces, particularly PCIe and MIPI CSI-2 with D-PHY 1.4+
  • Hands-on familiarity with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, multimeters, and power-debugging tools
  • Ability to interpret schematics and troubleshoot issues at the electrical–software boundary
  • Experience working in rapid prototyping environments
  • Strong product judgment centered on manufacturing reliability, robustness, and long-term serviceability
  • Preferred experience with Zephyr RTOS, embedded networking stacks, sensor fusion, Qualcomm SoCs/BSPs, three-phase motor drivers, vision processing, image pipelines, camera algorithms, or open-source embedded/Linux kernel projects
  • Interest in astronomy, physics, and scientific exploration
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States; the application includes a visa sponsorship question
