Descriere

  • Create, prototype, and deliver intuitive accessible interfaces for the National Water Prediction Service.
  • Convert hydrologic model outputs, scientific needs, Figma concepts, and stakeholder input into responsive touch-focused components.
  • Improve content discoverability and refine interactive map and hydrograph experiences.
  • Keep the product’s design language consistent across desktop, tablet, and mobile experiences.
  • Produce detailed Figma wireframes, interactive prototypes, user flows, and feature specifications for NWPS enhancements.
  • Build adaptive, touch-optimized layouts for phones and tablets.
  • Develop dynamic frontend elements, map control interfaces, and interactive chart widgets.
  • Apply Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA requirements to frontend components.
  • Build and curate the OWP design system and component library in accordance with USWDS and OWP brand standards.
  • Review user feedback, run A/B usability assessments, and improve navigation structures.
  • Work with full-stack engineers, geospatial data specialists, and QA testers within Agile sprints.
  • Match production implementations to approved Figma designs and meet the required minimum of 80% statement test coverage.

Cerințe

  • Bachelor’s degree in UX design, HCI, computer science, graphic design, or a related computational or design field.
  • Three to five years of professional experience designing and building public-facing websites, data dashboards, or geospatial applications; five or more years is preferred.
  • Portfolio demonstrating responsive web design, interactive chart and map visualizations, design systems, and Figma work for complex data-rich products.
  • Practical experience applying Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA standards to dynamic interfaces that use canvas or SVG.
  • Advanced command of Figma, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, user story mapping, and wireframing practices.
  • Strong knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, SASS, Tailwind CSS, ES6+ JavaScript, TypeScript, and a modern framework such as React, Vue, or Svelte.
  • Hands-on experience with web mapping libraries such as MapLibre GL, OpenLayers, Leaflet, or Esri ArcGIS JS API, plus visualization tools such as D3.js, Chart.js, or Plotly.
  • Deep knowledge of WCAG 2.1 Level AA, Section 508, ARIA, color-contrast validation, JAWS and NVDA compatibility, and automated tools including Axe Core and WAVE.
  • Familiarity with USWDS, design-token management, and mobile-first responsive design.
  • Experience using Git repositories such as VLab GitLab or GitHub, Jest or Cypress for component testing, and Agile tracking tools such as Jira or VLab Redmine.
