  • Work with customers remotely and on-site to understand shop operations and uncover lost time and revenue.
  • Turn high-impact workflow problems into clearly scoped, deployable solutions.
  • Design, build, and launch AI workflows and agents using LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, and tool use.
  • Automate shop tasks such as writing repair orders, preparing estimates, and sourcing parts.
  • Connect RO Writer’s platform with third-party systems through APIs.
  • Create evaluation and monitoring systems to keep AI outputs accurate, grounded, and trustworthy.
  • Lead customer pilots, collect feedback, and improve solutions quickly.
  • Work with Product and Engineering to develop successful field solutions into scalable product features.
  • Record findings and create playbooks for Support, Training, and Customer Success teams.
  • Represent customer needs within the engineering team.
  • Report to the General Manager and help establish the Forward Deployed Engineer function.

  • Professional software engineering experience with Python, TypeScript, or both.
  • Practical experience building with LLMs, including prompt design, agents or tool use, RAG, and evaluating output quality.
  • Ability to explain AI-driven development methods used in the past 18 months, from planning and building through testing and shipping software with AI.
  • Experience working in small teams to build applications and modules that improve or simplify end-user workflows.
  • A record of results stated in terms of user benefits, financial impact, and measurable outcomes such as time saved, costs reduced, revenue gained, and adoption.
  • Strong experience building and using APIs and integrating third-party systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, including explaining technical concepts to non-technical shop owners and listening effectively.
  • Comfort working through ambiguity and turning messy real-world problems into working solutions with minimal guidance.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to customer shops.
  • Experience in automotive, auto repair, or small-business or vertical SaaS is preferred.
  • Experience in a customer-facing technical role is preferred.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and modern deployment practices is preferred.
  • Experience using AI coding tools in daily work is preferred.
