Underwriting Associate, Engineering & Construction — Toronto Onsite

Support Swiss Re’s Engineering & Construction underwriting team in Toronto by preparing deal information, documentation, invoices, and materials for client and broker meetings.

Description

  • Provide accurate business-processing, administrative, technical, and marketing support to the Engineering & Construction Underwriting team
  • Review, update, and maintain account data, records, and documentation
  • Share and clarify information, follow direction, provide instructions, and respond to customer complaints and inquiries
  • Perform preliminary deal analysis and prepare account information for Underwriter review
  • Read, organize, and manage detailed source documents provided by external customers
  • Help Underwriters draft and prepare contractual documents and invoices
  • Prepare business correspondence when required
  • Organize and prepare information for client and broker meetings with Underwriter guidance
  • Coordinate with Underwriting, Products, Accounting, Finance, Claims, Compliance, and Policy Processing teams
  • Communicate with internal and external customers
  • Take an active role in assigned special projects

Requirements

  • Commercial insurance principles and practices are beneficial but not required
  • Entry-level candidates may be considered
  • Strong computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Careful, detail-oriented approach with the ability to complete routine insurance calculations using established formulas and tools
  • Experience maintaining underwriting documents such as quotes, binders, policies, and records
  • Experience with administrative support and accounting reconciliations
  • Ability to provide high-quality service while meeting defined quality and turnaround expectations
  • Ability to work effectively with globally distributed teams and demonstrate cultural sensitivity
  • Track record of collaborative work in a matrix organization
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, coordinate, and monitor an individual workload across multiple submissions
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities in multicultural settings
  • Excellent listening, reading, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • French language proficiency is an asset
  • Strong customer-service orientation
  • Flexible approach to changing tasks and priorities
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience is beneficial
