Tree Trimmer – St. Paul, MN (Onsite)

Prune and remove vegetation near energized power lines for Wright Tree Service. Operate climbing gear, chippers, vehicles, and other equipment across Minnesota job sites.

Description

  • Prune, remove, and fell trees, branches, and shrubs clear of power lines
  • Load manageable limbs and logs onto vehicles and equipment
  • Operate climbing gear, lift trucks, safety belts, climbing lines, ladders, saws, and pruners
  • Cut elevated branches and trunk sections, then lower them with rigging lines
  • Fell trees or spars and divide them into manageable sections
  • Work near energized power lines under qualified supervision and, once qualified, supervise non-qualified employees
  • Apply herbicides and growth regulators while maintaining required records
  • Train less experienced employees on company policies, procedures, safety practices, approved work methods, and OSHA requirements
  • Repair minor property damage at job sites and report larger issues to the General Foreperson
  • Feed brush and other debris into a woodchipper
  • Install warning signs, barriers, flags, and traffic-control devices; direct traffic and coordinate with property owners, customers, and emergency responders
  • Inspect and complete routine maintenance on company vehicles, equipment, and tools; report specialized service needs
  • Remain on duty and travel beyond the normal work location during emergencies or natural disasters
  • Drive and operate assigned vehicles and equipment
  • Maintain dependable, punctual attendance and follow applicable laws and company policies

Requirements

  • At least three months of experience on tree-trimming or clearing crews, or successful completion of applicable skills assessments
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
  • Hold valid First Aid and CPR cards, or obtain them within 90 days of hire
  • Understand tree identification, growth patterns, and arboricultural methods for trimming, pruning, repairing, maintaining, and removing trees near energized conductors
  • Know the current versions of ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300
  • Understand electrical circuits and read circuit maps
  • Know OSHA standards for electric power generation, transmission, and distribution, including 29 CFR 1910.269
  • Determine nominal voltage, use insulated tools near energized components, and distinguish exposed live parts from other electrical equipment
  • Read and write job instructions and safety information
  • Recognize poisonous plants
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment
  • Work extended hours and overtime during emergencies, including holidays, weekends, and storm operations; participate in call-out work
  • Know and be trained to perform tree and bucket rescue
  • Operate and service required tools and equipment
  • Obtain and maintain a valid driver's license or commercial driver's license and DOT medical card when applicable
  • Drive vehicles towing a chipper or other trailing unit
  • Maintain herbicide application certification or an equivalent credential as required by the company and law
  • Read, write, and speak English
  • Travel extensively, more than 50% of the time
  • Meet physical demands, including frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force
  • Work outdoors in rugged terrain and tolerate weather, noise, vibration, electrical current, heights, chemicals, and other hazards
