SURTASS Field Support Technician – Virginia Beach Hybrid

Amentum seeks a SURTASS Field Support Technician to maintain and repair U.S. Navy towed-array surveillance systems in Virginia Beach. The role covers installation, testing, shipboard training, emergency response, and operational support.

Description

  • Support SURTASS mission systems through troubleshooting, repair, testing, and restoration
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, upgrade, and repair SURTASS equipment and pier-side systems
  • Install hardware and software, evaluate system performance, and confirm operational readiness
  • Record maintenance activities, labor, resources, and time in the JSN/MSC WKRQ system
  • Recommend revisions to technical manuals, publications, and maintenance procedures
  • Perform TL-29A system grooming and module balancing
  • Provide refresher training for shipboard technicians and maintain training records
  • Deliver round-the-clock emergency technical assistance to reduce system downtime
  • Maintain accurate system records and support the deployment of new equipment and updates
  • Coordinate with O&M teams, technical authorities, government personnel, and contractors
  • Travel within and outside the continental United States, including short-notice assignments and deployments of up to three months
  • Work aboard ships at sea, on rotating shifts, and for more than 40 hours per week when required

Requirements

  • Associate degree in computer science, electronics technology, or a related technical field plus at least five years of experience; additional experience, training, or certifications may substitute for the degree
  • Active DoD Secret clearance and the ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret clearance after hire
  • Current U.S. passport or the ability to obtain one
  • Strong knowledge of COTS maintenance requirements, open-architecture considerations, and the U.S. Navy Maintenance Material Management System (3M)
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and train shipboard electronic maintenance technicians
  • Ability to perform effectively in an arduous work environment
  • Ability to pass a mariner's physical examination under COMSCINST 6000.1.c and maintain medical fitness for the role
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to obtain an international driving permit when required
  • Completion of U.S. Navy electronics “C” school or an equivalent civilian electronics technical program preferred
  • Four years of experience maintaining and repairing SURTASS arrays preferred
  • Five years of experience maintaining and repairing SURTASS processing and communications subsystems preferred
  • Civilian and/or military operations experience preferred
