Staff Firmware Engineer, Embedded Systems — Samsara Remote

Lead embedded, edge AI, and device-to-cloud safety systems at Samsara. Build firmware and connected products that help physical-operations industries improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

Description

  • Own customer outcomes from problem definition through measured delivery across firmware, Go backend services, and web or mobile experiences
  • Shape technology strategy and deliver embedded and firmware solutions
  • Define architectural patterns that influence device-to-cloud products across the organization
  • Develop voice-based interfaces for AI agents and human communication
  • Engineer for device limitations, connectivity requirements, cloud services, and fleet-scale deployment
  • Surface new opportunities while shaping technology direction and engineering culture
  • Validate edge AI algorithms for accuracy and reliable operation within device constraints
  • Use AI agents in development and improve the team’s AI fluency
  • Collaborate with Hardware, Backend, Web, Mobile, Product, and Customer Success teams

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience designing, developing, and deploying software
  • Two or more years of experience in technical leadership or architecture
  • Advanced expertise in an embedded area such as multimedia, connectivity, drivers and kernel, power management, or real-time systems
  • Experience delivering products across firmware, Go backend services, and web or mobile platforms
  • Strong programming ability in C/C++, Go, Python, or a comparable language
  • Product and systems perspective covering device constraints, connectivity, cloud services, and fleet-scale deployment
  • Practical experience using AI tools in daily engineering work and developing with AI agents
  • Proven ability to lead and complete complex, high-impact projects with multiple dependencies
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Experience building systems within tight compute, data, or hardware constraints
  • Expertise with multimedia frameworks, video codecs, and camera systems is preferred
  • Experience developing and operating large-scale embedded software deployed across more than one million devices is preferred
  • Experience deploying computer vision or machine learning models on edge devices is preferred
  • Background in robotics, drones, consumer electronics, or automotive systems is preferred
