Description

  • Lead engineering development for Slack mobile experiences used by millions of people daily
  • Drive complex, ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives from technical exploration through production rollout and ongoing evolution
  • Prototype features that shape mobile experiences for Slack’s highest-priority opportunities
  • Work with Product and Design to balance user needs, technical constraints, and maintainability
  • Shape engineering decisions across teams through technical leadership, product reviews, and mentorship
  • Establish and promote best practices for mobile feature development and operational excellence
  • Mentor senior engineers and support the broader mobile engineering community
  • Build and launch the first fully functional versions of new product concepts
  • Partner with Backend and mobile engineering colleagues on innovative product opportunities

Requirements

  • A related technical degree is required
  • At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience
  • Substantial experience developing complex, high-quality Android applications at scale
  • A record of working across organizational boundaries to launch initiatives, prototype paths to production, and realign organizations
  • Experience working in fast-moving settings such as startups, incubators, or zero-to-one teams
  • A record of leading large, ambiguous, organization-wide technical initiatives with significant business impact
  • Deep knowledge of Kotlin frameworks and modern Android development
  • Strong understanding of Android architecture, application lifecycle, concurrency, networking, and performance optimization
  • Ability to influence product and technical strategy with executive stakeholders, Engineering, Product, and Design leaders, and multiple teams
  • Experience with Jetpack Compose and modern Android architecture patterns is preferred
  • Experience with Combine Concurrency, including async/await and actors, and dependency injection frameworks such as Needle or Resolver is preferred
  • Experience leading large-scale new products, features, or product transformations is preferred
  • Experience applying research, usability testing, data, and experimentation is preferred
  • Open source or Android community contributions, or other external recognition of technical leadership, is preferred
  • Experience building collaboration, productivity, messaging, AI, or enterprise software products is preferred
  • Excellent communication skills are preferred
  • Strong product judgment and a commitment to exceptional user experiences are preferred
