Software Engineering Team Manager

Lead Pearson VUE engineering teams that support testing, exam delivery, and online proctoring services. Guide people, delivery, quality, and responsible AI practices.

Description

  • Lead engineering teams delivering Vue Testing Services, OnVue Exam Developer, and Test Delivery capabilities.
  • Recruit, onboard, coach, develop, and retain engineers and other technical staff.
  • Set team goals, feedback routines, development plans, and ways of working.
  • Turn product and departmental priorities into practical team plans, capacity decisions, and clear ownership.
  • Monitor sprint and release progress, dependencies, blockers, defects, quality, and near-term delivery risks.
  • Work with Product, Architecture, Quality Engineering, DevOps, Security, Operations, and business stakeholders.
  • Uphold standards for design, testing, automation, security, observability, documentation, and operational readiness.
  • Review engineering, delivery, quality, and team indicators to spot patterns and improve outcomes.
  • Oversee responsible use of AI-assisted development, testing, review, and documentation while safeguarding quality and security.
  • Lead the team with limited hands-on coding expected.

Requirements

  • A practical technical background in software engineering, quality engineering, architecture, technology solutions, or a related field.
  • Experience leading, coaching, or managing technical professionals and building effective teams.
  • Experience delivering software products, platforms, or technology services in Agile or other iterative environments.
  • A record of leading significant change, making sound decisions, and improving delivery or team effectiveness.
  • Working knowledge of modern software delivery, cloud, DevOps, CI/CD, automation, security, reliability, observability, and operational readiness.
  • Experience making people, capacity, priority, and delivery decisions across functions.
  • Experience collaborating across distributed teams, functions, or time zones.
  • Practical experience with AI-assisted engineering tools, or introducing them, and sound judgment about quality and risk.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and stakeholder-influence skills.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or Business, or equivalent practical experience.
